Job description

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Are you a Band 5 nurse looking to work somewhere a bit different?

We are seeking dynamic, enthusiastic, and motivated band 5 nurses to join our friendly multidisciplinary team. The Cardiac Angiography Suite (CAS) at Oxford Heart Centre comprises 5 Cath Labs, a 16-bed Day Unit, and a 4-bed Assessment Area, where patients undergo various cardiac procedures.

Procedures include Coronary Angiography/Intervention, Pacemaker/ICD implantation, Electrophysiology Studies/Ablations, Structural/Congenital procedures, and Trans-Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). We also perform nurse-led cardioversions, transoesophageal echo, and drug challenges.

The team in CAS is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a safe and welcoming environment. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for excellence and a commitment to developing their skills and knowledge.

The role involves working across the Day Unit/Assessment Area and Cath Labs, caring for both stable elective patients and acutely ill emergency cases.

Main duties of the job

You will be trained in managing a small caseload of patients pre and post-procedure in the Day Unit/Assessment Area and will work in scrub and circulating capacities for various procedures in the Cath Lab.

About us

The department operates Monday to Friday, with an on-call service for emergencies outside these hours and at weekends. Full-time nurses work four 10-hour shifts per week. Once settled, you may become part of the on-call team providing Primary Angioplasty within Thames Valley, depending on experience and competency completion.

On-call duties offer additional earnings, with flexible scheduling—typically one weeknight and one weekend day per month.

Previous cardiac nursing experience is desirable but not essential, as comprehensive training and induction will be provided. You will also have the opportunity to attend the Cardiac Foundation Course.

We offer a generous supernumerary period tailored to individual needs, ongoing career development, training for extended roles such as conscious sedation and nurse-led cardioversions, and collaboration with Oxford Brookes University for further education.
