Job description

We are looking for an outstanding Catering Manager who is passionate about food and wants to make a difference.

You'll be working 38.5 hours a week at Victoria House, creating an excellent experience for the people in our care.

Cygnet Victoria House is a 26-bed mental health inpatient service for men. The service, split across two wards, provides a safe and stabilising environment for men experiencing an acute episode of mental illness requiring emergency admission.

The ethos of our service focuses on assessing and treating service users in the least restrictive environment, with robust and timely discharge planning. We support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills, and prepare for independent life back in the community.

Your day-to-day...
  1. Organise and control the efficient and economical production of quality food within the allowed budget, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  2. Promote and ensure the good reputation of the hospital, demonstrating positive attitudes towards clients, families, staff, visitors, and others.
  3. Liaise with the Hospital Manager when planning and costing menus to provide a balanced, nutritious diet using fresh foods where available.
  4. Prepare, cook, and serve meals, both hot and cold, as appropriate, managing the food budget.
  5. Provide special diets as needed, considering individual preferences.
  6. Support the development of Active Recovery Care and Recovery processes.
  7. Handle washing up after meals and ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas.
  8. Maintain accurate records of food supplies, freezer temperatures, etc., as required.
  9. Order stock, check deliveries, and value stocks as directed by the Hospital Manager.
  10. Supervise and train kitchen staff in equipment use and hygiene procedures.
  11. Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
  12. Ensure statutory health and safety standards are met in the kitchen and dining areas.
  13. Report any infectious illnesses or accidents immediately to the Hospital Manager.
  14. Notify the Hospital Manager of any absence and return to work following periods of leave.
  15. Assist the Hospital Manager with staff interviews.
  16. Maintain confidentiality regarding all hospital matters.
  17. Participate in appraisals, performance reviews, staff and client meetings, and training sessions.
  18. Implement the hospital's health and safety policies, emergency, and fire procedures.
  19. Report faulty appliances, damaged furniture, or hazards to the Hospital Manager.
  20. Ensure the security of the hospital at all times.
  21. Adhere to all policies, standards, and legislation, including the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice.
  22. Undertake additional duties as required by the Head of Care or Hospital Manager.
