Job summary

Magdalen College is seeking a Snack Bar Supervisor to lead the Old Kitchen Bar operations in Central Oxford. You will oversee day-to-day service, supervise staff, manage stock and maintain high standards of food and beverage delivery within the Catering Department.

The role reports to the Operations Manager and offers a permanent, full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits as part of the college community.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a supervisory role within catering, hospitality or customer service.
• Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills.
• Commercial awareness including stock, waste, and cost control.
• Reliable and well organised with excellent timekeeping.
• Professional attitude and flexible cross-department working.
• Computer literacy with standard office tools (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Fluent spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operation of the Snack Bar and maintain high standards per the Catering Department manual.
• Deploy staff and resources to meet service requirements and maintain staffing levels.
• Supervise and train staff to ensure consistent service and identify improvements.
• Collaborate with Head Chef to respond to feedback and review bar operations.
• Support sales, cost control and waste reduction while upholding service standards.
• Provide refreshments for meetings and Senior Common Room as required and act as Duty Manager when needed.
• Deputise for Food & Beverage Services Manager or Bar Supervisor and ensure continuity of service.
