Job description

The Catering Department are looking to recruit 2 Catering Assistants:

  1. 1 working 30-hours per week, 6 hours a day, working 5 weekends out of 7. Hours of work will be 12.00 pm to 6.30 pm.
  2. 1 working 20-hours per week, 4 hours a day, working 5 weekends out of 7. Hours of work will be 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm.

Rota patterns will be explained during the interview.

You will work as part of a busy team working to tight timescales. You will be required to undertake a wide range of duties including:

  1. Food preparation, cleaning, and meal service duties within the kitchens and retail outlets.
  2. Completion of audit forms associated with food safety; financial policy & procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Work to standard operational procedures.
  2. Preparation of food, which could be within high-risk chilled areas, to specified recipes.
  3. Ensuring labelling of products is correct e.g. product name dates.
  4. After training, may be required to produce cooked foods e.g. soups, gravy, fried bacon etc.
  5. Performance of duties in accordance with approved methods, frequencies, and standards, adhering to strict food safety standards.
  6. Meeting deadlines for production of meals as part of a team.
  7. May be required to take patient menu choices at ward level, offering alternatives where required.
  8. Required to serve meals at ward level to patients, or in retail outlets to staff & visitors, occasional delivery of buffets & functions outside the Department.
  9. Use of equipment, machinery, and cleaning materials once trained, ability to spot defects with fabric or machinery and report to Supervisor.
  10. Significant cleaning duties associated with this post including cleaning of pans, cutlery, crockery, machinery, cooking equipment, and floors, walls, and work surfaces.
  11. Recording temperatures and other key audit requirements onto the appropriate monitoring forms, reporting to Supervisors where temperatures may be outside required limits.
  12. Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and follow the Departmental uniform code of practice.
