Job summary

Devon County Council is seeking a reliable Catering Assistant to join a friendly school team in Awliscombe, Devon. You will collect prepared meals from a neighbouring school, transport them safely, and serve lunches to pupils while upholding high food hygiene standards.

This term-time role is 2 hours per day, Monday to Friday, from 11:15am to 1:15pm. Training including food hygiene will be provided, and safeguarding responsibilities are emphasised.

Job description

We are seeking a reliable, enthusiastic and caring Catering Assistant to join our friendly school team.

You will be responsible for collecting prepared meals from a neighbouring school, transporting them safely to our site, and serving lunches to pupils while maintaining high standards of food hygiene and food safety.

This is a term-time only position for 2 hours per day, Monday to Friday, from 11:15am to 1:15pm.

Duties will include:

• Collecting and transporting school meals from a neighbouring school.
• Preparing and serving meals to pupils.
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and allergen management.
• Setting up and clearing away the serving area.
• Washing up and carrying out general kitchen duties as required.
• Providing a friendly, welcoming and positive dining experience for children.

We are looking for someone who:

• Is reliable, punctual and well organised.
• Has good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Is able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Has access to their own vehicle and holds a full, valid driving licence, as the role requires the daily collection of meals from another school.
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Has a good standard of spoken and written English.

Previous catering experience would be desirable but is not essential, as full training, including food hygiene training, will be provided.
