Job summary

Chiltern Way Academy is seeking a part-time Catering Assistant at its Sefton Park campus to support daily kitchen operations and meal service for students aged 9-19 with complex needs.

Working hours are 08:30 to 13:30, Monday to Friday, with duties including food preparation, washing up, cleaning, serving meals, and assisting with stock control and paperwork. The role emphasises food hygiene, safety, and safeguarding, and a DBS check is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in kitchen operations or catering is beneficial.
• Knowledge of food hygiene and safety is desirable.
• Ability to work calmly in a school environment and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist and operate within the kitchen during daily food production and service on allocated tasks.
• Undertake washing up and the cleaning of kitchen premises and equipment.
• Clear dining area, sweeping and mopping floors, and moving light furniture as required.
• Serve meals and respond to customer preferences.
• Assist in providing beverages and refreshments for staff and visitors as needed.
• Assist with stock control and related paperwork.
• Ensure disposal of rubbish and leftovers at day end and report maintenance issues.

We are seeking a part time Catering Assistant to join our Sefton Park campus. This campus provides education and care for up to 70 young people aged 9-19 who have a history of emotionally based school non-attendance (EBSNA), high levels of anxiety and significant gaps in learning due to disrupted educational journeys.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To assist and operate within the kitchen during daily food production and service on allocated tasks as per daily menu supplied, ensuring proper standards of presentation and correct economical use of materials and equipment.
• To undertake washing up and the safe and correct cleaning of the kitchen premises and equipment
• To clear the dining area including sweeping, mopping floors and moving light furniture
• To serve meals as requested whilst being responsive to customer preferences
• To assist in providing and transporting refreshments for staff, visitors, Governors and Trustees as required
• To assist the Senior Catering Assistant with paperwork and stock control
• To remove all rubbish and leftovers at the end of each day
• To be aware of the importance of food hygiene and undertake any necessary action to ensure the safety of food provided to staff and students
• To report equipment, maintenance problems and energy leaks to the line manager in a timely fashion
