Job description

A vibrant independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 2.5 - 18 years in Ackworth, Pontefract. Catering for 750 students and teachers daily. We offer a core feeding of breakfast, lunch, and evening meal, along with lots of ad hoc hospitality offerings. This is a term-time plus summer lets at this location, totaling about 48 weeks. The operation runs 7 days a week, with a working pattern of 5 days out of 7, including one weekend in two. Additional benefits include free parking.

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Catering Assistant to join our established & friendly team at our prestigious contracts in Ackworth.

Role requirements (Tasks & Responsibilities):
  1. Serve clients during breakfast, lunch, or dinner service.
  2. Assist in setting up the dining area for service.
  3. Prepare food for service, following hygiene and safety standards as specified.
  4. Ensure the kitchen is left clean and tidy according to the standards set by the Chef Manager or hygiene regulations.
  5. Clear, clean, and store away food, beverages, or equipment used for special functions.
  6. Restock and replenish stocks and consumables during service to ensure optimal customer service.
  7. Operate cleaning and dishwashing equipment, and properly clean and store all equipment and areas.
  8. Carry out all necessary cleaning and hygiene duties.
  9. Interact with and acknowledge all customers and staff professionally.
General Responsibilities:
  1. Adhere to all policies, procedures, and legislation to promote a professional and flexible approach.
  2. Wear the correct uniform neatly and cleanly at all times.
  3. Perform necessary checks, such as food temperature monitoring.
  4. Respond to reasonable requests from management.
  5. Report hazards and ensure health & safety standards are maintained.
Key Personal Skills and Attributes:
  1. Previous experience in a catering environment and serving customers.
  2. Teamwork, good listening skills, initiative, personal presentation, hygiene, and behavior standards. Food hygiene certification preferred.
  3. Adaptability, reliability, honesty, and a customer-focused attitude.
  4. Willingness to learn and take responsibility.
  5. Ability to manage moderate lifting, carrying, and pushing tasks.
  6. Good verbal and written English skills.
  7. Experience in customer service or food preparation preferred.
