Job summary

Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Catering Assistant to join our dedicated catering team in a healthcare setting. You will help prepare, present, and serve food and beverages across our outlets, ensuring high standards of hygiene and customer care to patients, families, staff and visitors.

As an NHS AfC Band 2 post, you will work under the Hotel Services Manager, with responsibilities including maintaining cleanliness, monitoring temperatures and stock, and following COSHH

Qualifications

  • Experience in customer service or food preparation in a retail catering environment.
  • Compassionate, organised and a team player.
  • Level 2 qualification in Maths and English or equivalent experience.
  • Food hygiene certificate desirable (or willing to complete during induction).

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Hotel Services Manager, your responsibilities will include:

Follow COSHH regulations and food hygiene standards, and support infection control procedures

Qualifications & Training
  • Level 2 (GCSE or Functional Skills) qualification in Maths and English or equivalent experience
  • Food hygiene certificate or to be completed during induction
Experience
  • Experience of customer service or food preparation in a retail catering environment
Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of food hygiene requirements in a catering environment
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures e.g. MRSA, Hand Hygiene, COSHH
  • Able to support families in a compassionate way, using different methods of communication to suit the situation, and know when and where to refer someone to
  • Able to manage different tasks, prioritising workload throughout the day
  • Work effectively as part of a team and coordinate with different team members
  • Computing skills, including the ability to use software relevant to the role e.g. till operation
