Job summary

Exemplar Health Care is recruiting a Catering Assistant at Wheldale Heights care home in Castleford. The role involves supporting the Chef with meal preparation, setting up dining areas, and keeping the kitchen clean to ensure a positive dining experience for residents.

You will work 20 hours per week, including weekends, with a pay rate of £12.71 per hour. Training and induction are provided, and you’ll join a supportive catering team focused on high-quality resident meals.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering in care or similar healthcare setting preferred.
• Basic food preparation and kitchen hygiene understanding desired.
• Ability to work as part of a team in a busy environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic food preparation and meal service.
• Keep kitchen clean and tidy, including washing up and cleaning surfaces.
• Wash, clean and sanitise tableware and utensils.
• Assist Chef with menu development based on dietary needs.
• Interact with residents to gather feedback on meals.
• Ensure compliance with food hygiene standards.
• Work as part of the wider Catering Team.

About The Role

Our Catering Assistants make delicious and nourishing meals for people with a range of dietary requirements.

No two days will ever be the same, but your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• assisting with basic food preparation
• keeping the kitchen clean and tidy including washing up, cleaning freezers and mopping floors
• cleaning and sanitising all tableware
• understanding people’s needs, likes and choices to help the Chef develop suitable menus
• interacting with the people we support to get feedback on meals
• complying with food hygiene standards
• being a great team player, working as part of the wider Catering Team.
