Job summary

Aspens Services is hiring a Catering Assistant to support our school kitchens in Burton-on-Trent. You’ll assist with basic food preparation, serve customers at tills during service, and help maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment in line with health and safety standards.

Join a busy team during school term time with a 25-hour week, Monday to Friday. We offer training, development opportunities and DBS checks where required to safeguard children and young people.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering or fast-paced service roles.
• Ability to work well in a busy team.
• Basic knowledge of health and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Support kitchen with basic food preparation.
• Handle till during service and assist customers.
• Maintain clean, safe kitchen and adhere to H&S.

The role:

As a Catering Assistant, you will be a vital part of the team, supporting our kitchen in basic food preparation and delivering excellent service that makes the lunchtime rush run smoothly.

You’ll be making a real difference through responsibilities that include:

• Customer Interaction: Working on the tills during service (don’t worry, full training is provided!).
• Front-Line Service: Providing friendly, polite customer service to all students and staff.
• Essential Support: Assisting the team with basic food preparation
• Maintaining Standards: Ensuring a safe, clean kitchen environment and meeting Health and Safety compliance

About you:

• You have previous catering or fast-paced service experience
• You have a basic knowledge of health and safety practices
• The Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification is great, but not essential as we can provide the training!
