Catering Assistant

We are now recruiting to Catering Assistant Retail at Queens Hospital Burton. We are looking for compassionate, caring, hardworking, flexible team members that are committed to enhancing our patient experience.

All staff working for UHDB play a key role in the organisation. You must possess excellent Communication skills the ability to work as part of a team and have a can-do attitude.

You will receive full training including a level 2 food safety and allergen training, other mandatory training and all essential to role training.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of a Catering Assistant working at Burton Hospital are to work as part of Facilities & ward teams to carry out a variety of tasks associated with food preparation, food and beverage service to patients, visitors and staff.

  • To deliver good principles of customer care ensuring helpfulness, awareness and compassion to patients, visitors, staff and colleagues.
  • Cleaning duties within the kitchen and other associated areas in accordance with departmental cleaning schedules to include equipment, work surfaces crockery and cutlery.

You will ideally possess a good understanding of Mathematics and English. Have a good understanding of customer care and be able to communicate well with patients, staff and visitors. Catering experience and a Food Safety Certificate are desirable but not essential, skills and technical training will be given.

Person Specification
Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements
  • Good literacy and numerical skills
  • Certificate in Allergen training Level 2 Food Safety Certificate or equivalent
  • Basic Health and Safety Certificate
Experience & Knowledge
  • To be able to demonstrate the ability to work on your own or in a team on a regular basis without direct supervision
  • Previous experience of working within the food industry is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of food allergens
Skills And Ability
  • Daily requirement for major part of shift to move catering equipment. Push and pull scrubbing machines Push meal and refreshment trolleys
  • Knowledge of Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP).
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of Manual Handling techniques
  • To be able to demonstrate in identifying faults with equipment/building
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
  • IT skills and ability to use computerised meal ordering.
  • Knowledge of specialised diets
  • Able to program, fill and stock control food in vending machines
Communications and Interpersonal Skills
  • Knowledge of food allergens
