Job summary

Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust is recruiting a Catering Assistant at Whitchurch Hospital to support a safe, efficient catering service within a community hospital. You will help prepare and serve meals, maintain hygiene, and keep facilities clean and stocked for service.

The role includes weekend shifts as part of a 7-day service, with a part-time 18 hours per week schedule and a pro rata salary of £25,272 per annum. Training and induction will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Experience in commercial catering is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure high quality control in food preparation, cooking and despatch.
  • Serve meals and handle dining room cash.
  • Maintain hygiene and cleanliness of catering areas.
  • Assist with washing up and stock checks.
  • Train and induct new catering staff and document training.
  • Receive and check deliveries and manage storage.
  • Handle money and complete required forms.

We are recruiting a Catering Assistant to support the delivery of a safe, efficient and high-quality catering service within our Community Hospital in Whitchurch. Working as part of the catering team, you will help prepare and serve food, maintain food hygiene standards and ensure catering facilities are clean, stocked and ready for use.You will work as part of a team to produce a high level of quality in the preparation of meals in accordance with work schedule as required.

Main duties of the job
  • Ensuring a good standard of quality control during preparations, cooking and despatch of food. This will include documentation of the process in accordance with a safe food system.
  • Serving meals and taking of cash for dining room till whenever necessary.
  • Responsible for practising good hygiene in regard to all aspects of the working of a catering department and including the maintenance of a good standard of personal hygiene
  • Assisting with the washing/drying up at lunch time.
  • Ensuring that all freezers/fridges are cleaned and defrosted regularly.
  • To complete food orders when required
  • Assisting with ward stores order.
  • To be responsible for the induction and training of new catering staff and that all training is documented.
  • Responsible for taking receipt of goods and putting away in the appropriate area’s
  • Accepting and checking delivery of goods as necessary.
  • The handling of money and filling in the appropriate form.
