OVERVIEW:

Our client - a major international shipping operator based in London - is looking for anexceptional,experienced, entrepreneurial & strategic procurement Category Officer. Reporting directly to the Head of Marine Procurement and Supply Chain, this is apivotal & high impactposition.

A versatile, leftfield thinker, the successful candidate will have an evidenced track record of costoptimisation, value creation and performance improvement. They will combinegenuine passionfor the many complexities of procurement in maritime shipping with a deep understanding of how to:

(1) Achieve andassuretheday-to-day operational needs of a diversified, globally trading fleet;

(2) Integrateprocurement within and across a business;

(3) Throughdata analysis and insight, drive measurable performance improvement across categories and contracting activities;

(4) Supportthe wider strategic goals of the company.

Underpinningall ofthe above, the ideal candidate will have deep, broad market awareness andpre-established suppliernetworks with an extensive track record of commercial negotiation & supplier management.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND DELIVERABLES WILL INCLUDE:

Day-to-day:

  • Oversight & coordination ofthe full lifecycle of tendering &contracting processes, encompassing both pre-award and post-awardphases(thisincludes:management ofthepreparationof tenderdocuments;evaluation of bids; facilitation ofcontractnegotiations;andfinalisingcontractawards).
  • Ensuringeffectiveadministration ofend-to-end contract processesthrough:handling contractreviews&variations;compliancemonitoring;andtimelyrenewals.
  • The provision of expert advice and supportto internal stakeholders: on category-related matters, working closely with them to understand and align their needs; and to coordinate and assist line departments on contractual matters and resolve issues with contractors / vendors.

Short, medium & long-term thinkingin order to:

  • Define & implement medium & long-term category plansthat are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Develop and execute strategiesto achieve cost savings, improve quality & ensure supply continuity.

The analysis of:

  • Spend & demand datato identify cost-saving & drive efficiencies, including the establishment & application of cost-modelling concepts.
  • The marketto identify trends, risks & opportunities.
  • Riskswithin the supply chain, including disruptions and price volatility.
  • Key Performance Indicatorsfor the category (including cost savings, supplier performance and compliance) to drive ongoing performance improvement.

Suppliers & supply chain:

  • The identification, evaluation and onboarding of new suppliersto ensure a competitive & reliable supplier base.
  • The negotiation of contracts, pricing and terms with suppliers to achieve optimal value.
  • The identification & mitigation of risks within the supply chain,including supply disruption & price volatility.

IDEAL CANDIDATE, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be both detail-focusedanda strategic thinker, able to solve complex problems to link near-term changes with long-term success.
  • Have outstanding interpersonal qualities, influencing & building stakeholder relationships (both internally & externally).
  • Be an adept, accomplished negotiator who defines and achieves advantageous positions with suppliers.
  • Have ’whole-business’ commercial acumen, understanding that procurement - while important - is just one part of wider business success.
  • Innovate & take calculated risks.
  • Be strongly analytical, data proficient, able to collate data from a broad range of sources to demonstrate where & how improvements can be made.
  • Be an accomplished communicator - both verbally and in writing - who can boil down the most complicated ideas to their core components.
  • Demonstrate underlying authenticity, integrity and commitment in what they do.

Essential experience & education:

  • At least seven years of procurement experience with a ship owner or ship manager, including at least five years in category management.
  • A bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, supply chain, logistics, purchasing management (or a related field).
  • Proficiency in English (speaking / writing).
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel & PowerPoint.
  • MSc in Supply Chain Management, Logistics or related field. Or a member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply or an equivalent professional body.
