Job description

Reporting to: Lead Category Manager Location: Equity, Eccles, or Watford

We are seeking a passionate and commercially savvy Category Manager to lead our Wine category, a key part of our dynamic Alcohol team.

This role can be based at any of our offices in Equity, Eccles, or Watford. We offer a hybrid working model, combining office collaboration with remote work flexibility.

Job Summary: Maximise the profitability of specified product categories, enhance customer satisfaction, and increase cash profit.

  • Develop and implement category plans to meet sales, margin, and profit targets while ensuring product availability.
  • Negotiate annually with suppliers for competitive terms.
  • Gather and respond to customer feedback to shape category plans, linking to sell plans and customer satisfaction.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to queries from customers, suppliers, or internal teams.
  • Communicate category plans and objectives clearly to ensure understanding and buy-in.
  • Ensure product ranges reflect principles of good, better, and best.
  • Collaborate with the senior team to identify opportunities and improve processes.
  • Lead the category team, manage performance, and develop succession plans, supporting Booker’s values of inclusion and development.
  • Adhere to our Business Code of Conduct, acting with integrity, promoting diversity and inclusion.

Operational Skills:

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and make commercial decisions.
  • Attention to detail, report writing, data interpretation, and record keeping.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant markets and developments.
  • Flexibility in work approach.

Relevant Experience:

  • Previous buying experience preferred.
  • Extensive experience working in FMG.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously.
  • Experience in developing and managing marketing campaigns.
