About the role

Reporting to: Lead Category Manager

Location: Wellingborough, Eccles, or Watford

Job Summary: Maximise profitability of specified product categories, improve customer satisfaction, and increase cash profit.

We are recruiting a Category / Buying Manager for the Retail Grocery team, focusing on Crisps, Snacks & Nuts, based at either our Eccles, Wellingborough, or Watford offices.

You will be responsible for

  • Developing and implementing category plans to meet sales, margin, and profit targets while maintaining product availability.
  • Growing the own brand business, sourcing products to increase sales and margins.
  • Negotiating annually with suppliers to secure competitive terms.
  • Responding to customer feedback to shape category plans, linking to sales strategies and satisfaction metrics.
  • Handling customer queries and complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Communicating category plans and objectives effectively to ensure understanding and buy-in.
  • Ensuring product displays reflect good, better, and best principles.
  • Collaborating with the team to identify opportunities and improve processes.
  • Adhering to our Business Code of Conduct, acting with integrity, championing diversity, and practicing due diligence.

You will need

Operational skills:

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and make commercial decisions.
  • Attention to detail, report writing, data interpretation, and accurate record-keeping.
  • Knowledge of relevant markets and market developments.
  • Flexibility in work approach.

Experience relevant for this job:

  • Previous buying experience desired.
  • Extensive experience working in FMG.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously.
  • Experience in developing and managing marketing campaigns.
