Job summary

Carbon in London is seeking a Catastrophe Modelling Analyst to strengthen the Exposure Management team. The role develops modelling capabilities, works with Graphene and Graphene APIs, and supports underwriting with analytics and regulatory reporting.

With 2–3 years of catastrophe modelling experience, you will analyse portfolio exposures, communicate findings clearly, and help shape data-driven decisions for delegated underwriting in a dynamic market.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years' catastrophe modelling experience.
  • Practical experience using AIR Touchstone.
  • Experience with portfolio aggregation and accumulation analysis.
  • Experience within the London Insurance Market.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Experience working with large datasets and portfolio-level analysis.
  • Basic coding knowledge (Python, SQL, or similar).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver catastrophe modelling, portfolio analytics and regulatory reporting within deadlines.
  • Analyse exposures using Verisk AIR Touchstone and Graphene to assess new business impacts.
  • Provide underwriting insights across catastrophe exposures and non-catastrophe exposures.
  • Support underwriters with modelling reports to optimise portfolios.
  • Contribute to modelling workflows and integration with technology to enhance risk insight.
  • Maintain documentation of methodologies and model settings.
  • Assist with data validation and exposure management controls.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated Catastrophe Modelling Analyst to join our Exposure Management team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with 2-3 years of catastrophe modelling experience who wants to develop their technical expertise, work closely with underwriting teams, and help shape how data and analytics support delegated underwriting decisions.

You will play a key role in catastrophe modelling, wider exposure management, portfolio analytics, regulatory reporting, and the ongoing development of our modelling capabilities through integration with Graphene and vendor model APIs.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Exposure Management and Underwriting teams by delivering catastrophe modelling, portfolio analytics and regulatory reporting activities within deadlines.
  • Work extensively with Verisk AIR Touchstone and Carbon's proprietary technology platform, Graphene, to analyse portfolio exposures and assess the impact of new business.
  • Provide insight to support underwriting decisions across natural catastrophe, non-natural catastrophe and non-catastrophe exposures.
  • Support underwriters with regular modelling and exposure reports to help them optimise portfolios and make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Support the evaluation of new opportunities by assessing portfolio impacts and catastrophe risk accumulation.
  • Contribute to the development, testing and optimisation of catastrophe modelling workflows, working closely with the technology team to enhance portfolio analytics, reporting and risk insight within Graphene.
  • Maintain clear documentation of methodologies, assumptions, processes and model settings.
  • Assist with data validation, quality assurance and exposure management controls.
  • Support the wider Exposure Management team with ad hoc analysis, reporting and project work, including model validation and development of view of risk.
Required Training & Experience
  • 2-3 years' experience in catastrophe modelling
  • Practical experience using AIR Touchstone.
  • Experience working with portfolio aggregation and accumulation analysis.
  • Experience within the London Insurance Market.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Experience working with large datasets and portfolio-level analysis.

Desirable Training & Experience
  • Exposure to delegated authority underwriting.
  • Familiarity with Lloyd's reporting requirements and exposure management practices.
  • Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Geography, Statistics, Atmospheric Science, Geophysics, Computer Science or a related discipline.
