Job summary

Sodexo in Buxton is seeking a Casual Waste Operative / Caretaker to support site operations. You will collect waste streams, ensure correct segregation, and help maintain clean, safe facilities across the site.

The role requires a current FLT licence, experience in waste operations, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently or with the team. Casual hours and career development opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience operating within waste operations or a similar industrial/operational environment.
• A basic understanding of waste management, recycling and waste segregation.
• Strong emphasis on Health & Safety and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Collect different waste streams from departments and buildings across the site.
• Ensure waste is correctly segregated, supporting recycling and environmental targets.
• Move waste, materials and equipment safely around the site.
• Operate forklift trucks and waste-handling equipment where required.
• Complete daily safety checks on forklifts and waste-handling equipment and report any faults.
• Operate waste-processing and power-cleaning equipment safely.
• Check waste bins and containers are secure and safe before moving them.
• Clean waste bins, containers and waste-handling equipment.
• Maintain the cleanliness of yard areas, workshops, plant rooms and machinery.
• Carry out minor repairs to bins and equipment using basic hand tools where appropriate.
• Identify and report incorrect waste disposal, leaks, hazards or other waste-management issues.
• Respond to scheduled tasks and ad-hoc operational requests.
• Follow all Safe Systems of Work, Health & Safety, Fire Safety and COSHH procedures.
• Wear the appropriate PPE and follow safe working practices at all times.
• Complete relevant training and maintain required standards of compliance.
• Support the wider team with other reasonable operational duties when required.
