Our Residential and Supported Living Services in Dewsbury and Knottingley provide 24-hour support to adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities, and mental health histories. Clients are from diverse backgrounds and aged between 50 - early 70's, making this a varied and rewarding role.

We’re looking for caring, resilient, and enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about helping others live independently. Many of our clients have lived in care services for a number of years, and your support will continue to help them build confidence and lead meaningful lives.

As a Casual Support Worker, You Will

  • Deliver person-centred, practical support tailored to individual goals.
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, structure, and community inclusion.
  • Support with social engagement, daily living, and life skills.
  • Work closely with professionals including Community Learning Disabilities Team, GPs, Health Professionals and social workers to deliver joined-up support.

Main duties of the job

Person-Centred

Work alongside clients to create and update tailored support plans that reflect their goals, preferences, and values. Regularly review and adapt plans to meet changing needs, always keeping the client’s voice at the centre.

Respectful

Support clients to live independently, promoting dignity, choice, and control. Encourage involvement in household tasks, community activities, hobbies, and informal learning. Accompany clients to appointments and social outings aligned with their interests.

Open

Communicate openly and professionally with clients, colleagues, and external professionals. Be consistent, reliable, and build trusting relationships by always doing what you say you will.

Understanding

Use trauma-informed approaches to support clients through emotional distress or challenging behaviours. Maintain a calm, non-judgemental presence and promote a safe, supportive environment.

Dedicated

Maintain accurate and timely records, including daily notes and updates to support plans, with client involvement wherever possible. Work closely with external professionals including CMHTs, substance misuse services, and GPs to ensure joined-up, holistic support.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The role of a Casual Support Worker is varied and shifts will be offered as and when required. we support adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities, and mental health histories, all of whom have various levels of capacity. Our services cover CQC Registered both Residential and Supported Living and non registered Supported Living.

We’re looking for individuals who can work flexibly and bring creativity, empathy, and a can-do attitude to the role – those who embody our PROUD values:

Essential Qualities & Responsibilities

  • A willingness to provide appropriate support tailored to each client’s goals and aspirations, in line with their person-centred support plan.
  • An understanding of how to support individuals with complex needs in a way that promotes independence, dignity, and autonomy.
  • Ability to maintain accurate written records, including daily notes, risk assessments, and incident reports, with involvement from the client wherever possible.
  • Comfortable undertaking a variety of domestic, practical, and emotional support duties, including supporting clients to access the community, maintain tenancies, attend appointments, and engage in meaningful activities.
  • Physically able to meet the general demands of the role – such as using stairs or working night shifts – with reasonable adjustments considered in line with the Equality Act.
  • Willingness to use IT systems confidently (such as Word, Outlook, and basic databases), with training provided as required.
  • A strong team player, who can communicate effectively with colleagues, external professionals (e.g. CMHT, IST, substance misuse services, GPs, and housing teams), and where appropriate, families or informal carers.
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
