A local authority organization is looking for a Regulatory Support Officer in Morecambe to oversee food safety initiatives and engage with national bodies. This role involves flexible monitoring and inspections, engaging with the community, and data interpretation. Requires good organizational and communication skills. Pay is £16.08 per hour, with hybrid working conditions.
We are looking for an inquisitive, methodical, organised and practical person to work in the food and safety team based at Morecambe Town Hall. The role of Regulatory Support Officer involves undertaking sampling activities whether they be local initiatives through to national surveys, imported foods or complaint work, this work may also lead to engaging with national bodies such as the Food Standards Agency or the United Kingdom Heath Security Agency (UKHSA).
The post holder, in conjunction with colleagues, will also undertake shellfish and sea water monitoring, interpretation of results and suggested follow up actions, due to tide times this may be outside normal working hours. On occasions you may be required to represent the Council at regional shellfish liaison meetings with the trade. We as part of a UKHSA annual study routinely monitor mosquito sites across the district for invasive species.
Other duties will include undertaking low risk food hygiene inspections across the district whether in person or by telephone. Completing infectious disease questionnaires, investigating complaints which may be food or health and safety related, reviewing licensing applications to determine if new ownership has occurred, providing advice, assistance and suggestions to food safety officers which could be in the form of formal reports, statements.
The post holder will be expected to liaise with technical staff of manufacturing sites and public, interpreting results of analysis and explaining in layman terms, interpreting legislation and being able to build rapport quickly. You will also be required to transport samples to the County Laboratory in Preston sporadically, pool cars are available to the postholder although having access to your own vehicle will be advantageous.
You may also be required to accompany officers on inspections to assist with collecting samples or suggesting a course of action. In addition, you may also be asked to board vessels at Glasson Dock and Heysham Port in order to conduct documentary checks or sampling activities so good spacial awareness and balance is required.
Due to this post being casual, flexible working hours will not be applicable to this role. This is a flexible hybrid working role working from Morecambe Town Hall and home split equally dependent upon service requirements.
Hours will be offered on an ad hoc basis, usually between one/two days per week. The rate of pay for this role is £16.08 per hour.
