Working Hours: Up to 37 hours per week (Classes daytime and evening)
Working location: This is a City Wide role, visit our website to view the locations of our teaching centres
Contract Type: 4 positions x Casual Hours

Manchester Adult Education offers an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivating English and/or Maths Lecturer to join our team. The role involves planning, delivering, and assessing part-time adult courses, including daytime and some evening sessions. Casual roles may be short-term cover or longer-term teaching.

Courses include:

  • Functional Skills/Awards (Entry Level to Level 2)
  • GCSE
  • Context-specific courses
  • Booster/Support classes

Key responsibilities:

  • Teach online lessons where appropriate, as well as in centres across the city, including occasional evenings
  • Join a supportive team of industry-specialist teachers supporting adult learners to achieve their goals
  • Deliver teaching to at least a good or outstanding standard
  • Assess learners against awarding body criteria to ensure qualification achievement
  • Comply with safeguarding procedures
  • Take course leadership responsibilities where applicable
  • Participate in team meetings and working groups
  • Maintain good communication with staff regarding learners
  • Follow service quality assurance procedures
  • Maintain accurate learner records, including attendance and achievement
  • Stay updated in subject area and administration processes
  • Represent MAES positively internally and externally

About The Candidate

We seek candidates who can inspire adult learners to improve their skills and aspirations, enhancing employment opportunities, confidence, and family support. Experience in delivering English and Maths courses to diverse skills levels, including learners with additional needs, is preferred. Applications are welcome from both experienced and newly qualified teachers.

Demonstrate:

  • Professional and academic competence/qualifications for the courses
  • Experience with various teaching strategies, both face-to-face and online
  • Familiarity with e-learning platforms such as Google Classroom and BKSB, or willingness to learn
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Flexibility, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage adult learners and role model positive attributes
  • GCSE A*-C / 9-4 in English and Maths or equivalent (essential)
  • Teaching qualification, ideally Level 5 or willingness to work towards
