Job summary

Hull City Council is seeking a Casual Facilities Assistant to provide caretaking, cleaning, low level maintenance and security across council buildings in Hull.

The role includes security duties, basic repairs, setting up furniture for meetings, and assisting with events at the Guildhall, with lone working and health and safety responsibilities as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Casual position requiring flexible hours.
  • Experience in building caretaking, cleaning and security is advantageous.
  • Able to perform basic maintenance tasks and assist events across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide security: lock/unlock doors, set alarms, monitor CCTV, liaise with security.
  • Identify faults and report/repair as appropriate to maintain building condition.
  • Carry out low level maintenance (e.g., changing light bulbs) using hand tools.
  • Perform general porterage and arrange furniture or equipment for meetings and events.
  • Carry out janitorial and cleaning tasks and assist with Legionella monitoring.

Job Description Summary: This is a Casual Position

ROLE AND PURPOSE

To provide a building user focused caretaking (including cleaning), low level maintenance and security function within various Council buildings.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  1. Undertake an effective security provision within various Council buildings including locking and unlocking of doors, setting of alarms, monitoring building CCTV and liaising with the Councils security section (Civic)
  2. Constant awareness and regular inspections to identify faults and defects to the building, furniture, fittings and equipment. Repair or report works to be carried out as appropriate.
  3. Undertake low level maintenance tasks (eg changing light bulbs) as instructed and directed. Use of power hand tools (eg drill) as required
  4. Undertake general porterage duties as required and particularly the provision of setting up / arranging furniture and equipment (audio / visual) as directed for meetings, functions and events.
  5. Carry out janitorial and cleaning tasks as required. Carry out and record regular flushing of small water outlets to assist Legionella monitoring.
  6. Provide stewarding for functions and events at the Guildhall including weddings, dinners and concerts.
  7. Lone working as required within various buildings.
  8. Liaise with contractors undertaking maintenance and improvement works to the building to ensure a safe environment is maintained.
  9. Be responsible for testing fire alarms, reporting faults and be fully conversant with fire and evacuation procedures.
  10. Remove recyclable and other waste from various buildings and is disposed of appropriately. Bin / skip compounds and outside areas are kept tidy and containers presented for collection as required. Remove and shred confidential waste using appropriate shredder prior to disposal.
  11. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on Hull City Council, as your employer and you as an employee of the council. In addition to the Councils overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health & safety and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Council’s Corporate H&S policy. Compensation Grades: GRADES 2.

Pay Ranges: £12.85 - £12.85
