Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) Clinical Navigator

Are you an experienced and Registered Nurse or Paramedic looking for a different way to use your skills or are you looking for your first leadership role?

We are looking to recruit a CAS Clinical Navigator (CCN) within our IUC Contact Centre in Gillingham, Medway.

Main duties of the job

As a first line manager, the post holder will be a focal point for staff; providing advice, guidance, motivation, direction and leadership as well as managing rotas, sickness and welfare issues.

Additionally, the post holder will also be expected to fulfil the duties of a Clinical Advisor, and be responsible for Call Audit, clinical decision support use, performance management and clinical quality and governance issues relating to their teams.

CCN’s must provide clinical supervision for the NHS Pathways or Pathways Clinical Consultation Support (PaCCS) call triage system. The post holder must be fully licenced and qualified in or be willing to commit to, and successfully complete the full training and mentoring package for either system, and if trained in PaCCS must also complete the Call Handler Support Module.

Applicants must also have excellent communication skills that are adaptable to be able to influence and support direct line reports and form an integral part of the IUC team.

Working for our organisation

We are looking for the following:

  • Rotas that include working weekdays, late afternoon into evenings, Saturdays and Sundays

Please note, this is a 24/7 role and there is a requirement to work a variety of shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays. Unsocial hours is payable in addition to the salary quoted, dependent upon working pattern.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The CAS Clinical Navigators are responsible for the oversight and management of safety and risk to our patients within our IUC Contact Centres.

A key part of the role is to maintain oversight of the Trust’s awaiting patients, with the capability of managing IUC clinical resources to provide clinical safety assurance and risk mitigation to our patient’s.

Knowledge
  • High level of current clinical knowledge (Nursing, Paramedic /HCPC or other relevant clinical background)
  • Minimum of three years’ post registration qualification as a paramedic/nurse (or equivalent relevant experience)
Skills
  • Ability to mentor/train junior staff and a commitment to sharing knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrates a high level of numeracy and literacy through written and verbal communication
Experience
  • Experience of leading and developing a team of clinicians
  • Ambulance or acute or chronic care / Emergency Care or telephone based triage
  • Experienced in the use of Clinical Decision Support Systems
  • Significant experience in clinical management within 111 Integrated Urgent Care

Please note that the salary range noted on the vacancy is in line with agenda for change (AFC) pay scales. All successful applicants would be placed automatically at the bottom of the banding, unless proven, relevant NHS or equivalent experience can be demonstrated.
