Role:Carpenter and Joiner
Salary:From £34,796 per year (Grade 6)+ opportunities for overtime
Contract: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours)
Location:Can be based from any of our NYH Depots, Northallerton, Thirsk, Brompton on Swale, Scarborough, Kirby Misperton, Skipton, Boroughbridge, with travel across across North Yorkshire

About the Role:

We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Carpenter and Joiner to join our new Property Services team at NY Highways. This is a varied and rewarding role involving a mix of capital projects and responsive maintenance work across a range of commercial properties.

As part of a skilled team, you’ll be delivering high-quality joinery services related to property maintenance and renovations, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and building regulations. You’ll be expected to work flexibly across the county and take part in our out-of-hours call out rota to respond to emergency repairs.

As a Carpenter and Joiner you will:

• Carry out 1st and 2nd fix joinery across commercial properties as per work orders and specifications.
• Work across a range of programmes including responsive maintenance, planned maintenance, and capital projects.
• Operate trade-specific tools and equipment, construct mobile towers/access platforms, and adhere to strict H&S standards.
• Liaise effectively with supervisors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
• Assist with planning tasks, risk assessments, method statements, and reporting using handheld digital devices.
• Provide supervision and training for apprentices and contribute to the wider team as required.

To be successful in this role you will have:

Essential:

• NVQ Level 3 in Joinery (or equivalent time-served experience)
• CSCS Gold Card
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Experience in both 1st and 2nd fix joinery
• Understanding of Health & Safety practices
• Experience working across different trade areas within property maintenance
• Flexibility to work as part of an on-call rota and travel across the county
• Enhanced DBS check (Children’s Barred List)

Desirable (or willingness to train):

• PASMA certification
• Manual Handling, Safe Dig, Abrasive Wheels, and Banksman training
• Nail Gun Awareness, Face Fit, Asbestos Awareness
• Working at Height certification
• First Aid (Emergency) training
