Location: HMP The Verne, Verne Common Rd, Portland DT5 1EQ

Salary: £30,000 per annum, including £1,000 Recruitment & Retention Allowance

Contract: Permanent, Full-time, 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday

We are seeking a dedicated Carpenter to join our team at HMP The Verne, a category C adult male prison. Join a team that works Monday to Friday as a supportive family, working together to create a safe and nurturing environment. HMP The Verne functions like a self-contained town, requiring hundreds of staff to operate effectively. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, you will contribute to the smooth and safe operation of the facility, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

As a Carpenter inc Locksmith, you will work alongside experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to making a positive difference. We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical services to HMPPS, seeking a Carpenter inc Locksmith with:

  1. Substantiated experience in a similar role
  2. Competency in the use and operation of all associated power tools and machinery
  3. Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office Excel and Word
  4. Knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements
  5. Up-to-date First Aid at Work Qualification
  6. City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry or equivalent qualification, or substantial experience
  7. Good Health & Safety knowledge
  8. Excellent organizational, time management, and people skills
