Job Role: Carpenter inc Locksmith

Location: HMP Chelmsford - 200 Springfield Rd, CM2 6LQ

Salary: £36,000

Contract: Full-time/permanent

We are seeking a dedicated Carpenter inc Locksmith to join our team at HMP Chelmsford, a Category B, Male prison. Join a team that works Monday to Sunday as a supportive family, working together to create a safe environment. HMP Chelmsford functions like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it running smoothly. As part of the Facilities Maintenance Team, your work impacts prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

You will work alongside experienced colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all committed to making a positive difference and providing a secure environment. We require candidates with:

  • Substantiated experience in a similar role
  • Competency with power tools and machinery
  • Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office Excel and Word)

  • City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry or equivalent experience
  • Strong health and safety knowledge
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
