Location: HMP Winchester, Romsey Rd, Winchester SO22 5DF

Salary: £36,678.26 per annum

Contract: Permanent, full-time, 39 hours per week

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Carpenter to join our team at HMP Winchester, a category B adult male local prison. Our team works Monday to Friday as a supportive and driven family, creating a safe and nurturing environment for the men in our care.

The prison operates like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to keep it functioning. Our Facilities Maintenance Team is committed to ensuring smooth and safe operations, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community. You will work alongside passionate colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Painters, Administrators, and Cleaners, all dedicated to making a positive difference.

Working in a prison environment requires emotional resilience, the ability to work at pace, manage multiple tasks, and remain calm under pressure. Requirements

• A formal qualification such as NVQ or City and Guilds at level 2, or significant work-based experience with knowledge of current best practices and safety standards for materials, tools, and equipment.
• Knowledge of routine preventative maintenance and adaptability to changing priorities when reactive maintenance is needed.
• Enjoyment of team and collaborative working.
• Honest, reliable, and robust character.
