Job description

Carpenter/ Multi

  • £27.12 per hour self-employed (CIS)
  • Location: RG Postcode areas (Reading/Basingstoke etc)
  • 40 hours per week Mon- Fri 8am to 5pm
  • Van, fuel card, mobile phone, uniform, lone working device and all PPE provided.
  • Own tools required
  • Duration- Up until the end of 2025

Reed Recruitment have an exciting opportunity with a reputable social housing provider, as a self-employed Carpenter/ Multi, to cover the RG postcode areas.

Working in a social housing environment, you will undertake carpentry repairs, installations and maintenance work to provide high quality “right first time” cost effective building services to the business and its customers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identify and undertake carpentry and associated work as directed.
  • Carry out multi-skill activity (trade work not attached to your core skill) as required and within competency.
  • Liaise with other employees as necessary to complete specified works.
  • Ensure levels of productivity and work within the required timescales / categories or to targets.
  • Receive, plan and complete job orders on time and to quality.
  • Ensure that all relevant documentation is processed, and systems are completed in a timely manner.
  • Conduct work in accordance with current legislation, British Standards, Codes of Practice, safe systems of work and recognised industrial standards for such work, minimising damage to the fabric of the property.
  • Use of information systems and information technology.
  • Undertake essential reinstatement work as necessary to ensure premises are left in a safe secure and weather-tight condition.
  • Ensure that vehicle stocks are maintained and accounted for.
  • Take a proactive approach and reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others who may be affected by their activities at work, including occupants, visitors, and members of the public.
  • Report any hazards or unsafe practices to your supervisor.
  • Undertake visual inspection of all tools, equipment and where appropriate vehicles ensuring they work correctly, reporting any defects. Comply with formal periodic testing checks.
  • Act in a professional manner always.
  • Ensure protective clothing and Health and Safety equipment provided is used correctly and when required, in accordance with risk assessments.
  • Ensure pre-start risk assessments are undertaken.
  • Co-operate with health surveillance programmes.
  • Ensure that all safety procedures are followed for all working at heights activities.
  • Follow agreed procedures when working in occupied properties to ensure resident safety and security.
  • Maintain a working environment that is safe and without risk to health in accordance with the Safety, Health and Environment policy.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues / clients / customers and work as part of a team.

What you will need to succeed

We are looking for someone who believes in working together as part of a team, who shares our values and is friendly and positive. The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of reactive repairs within a social housing/residential setting.
  • Have the carpentry skills to install, maintain and repair carpentry installations.
  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills.

The following qualifications or equivalent qualifications are essential:

  • Carpentry qualification at NVQ2 or equivalent.
  • A Full UK Driving License - no more than 3 points.
  • Possess a recent DBS certificate or be willing to have a DBS conducted.
