Caretaker/Security Officer (with cash handling)

Main Purpose of the Role: The postholder will be responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness, upkeep, and general maintenance across Newry and Warrenpoint Town Halls. Key Duties and Responsibilities
Operations and Maintenance
  • Clean and maintain all internal and external areas of the Town Halls, including steps and pathways.
  • Set up rooms and equipment for events and meetings.
  • Operate and monitor the heating systems, checking oil levels.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly fire alarm tests and report faults.
  • Undertake day-to-day maintenance and report hazards or repairs to management.
Event and Venue Support
  • Open and close buildings as required.
  • Monitor public access and attendance during functions.
  • Attend events to enforce the conditions of letting and ensure order is maintained.
  • Operate lighting, sound, and other technical equipment as needed.
  • Supervise stewards hired by event organisers and brief them on evacuation procedures.
  • Inform patrons of fire evacuation procedures prior to performances and assist in evacuations if needed.
  • Liaise with clients on-site regarding event requirements and setups.
  • Assist with emergency procedures and assume lead responsibilities in the absence of the Facilitator.
Security and Cover Duties
  • Carry out full security checks before, during, and after events.
  • Lock and secure premises and act as keyholder for alarm call-outs on a 24/7 rota.
  • Provide cover for other caretaker/security staff as required.
  • Supervise the reception area during lunch breaks and other designated times.
Transport and Equipment Handling
  • Drive the Town Hall van to collect or deliver supplies and equipment.
  • Operate hoist equipment and use harnesses/lanyards on both internal and roof-mounted systems.
General Responsibilities
  • Carry out any duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the post.
  • Comply with all Health & Safety legislation and Council policies, including Dignity at Work, Attendance, and Codes of Conduct.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
