Headlands CE (C) J I & N School is a welcoming, nurturing and ambitious two-form entry primary school in Liversedge, West Yorkshire.

We are seeking to appoint a conscientious, self-motivated and enthusiastic caretaker who is passionate about ensuring that our school community can learn and work in a safe, caring and efficient setting.

The successful candidate will have a key role in the maintenance, cleanliness, health and safety and security of our school.

We are looking for someone with a good range of skills and caretaking experience including building and grounds maintenance, general DIY, security and cleaning.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher and School Business Manager to ensure that pupils, staff, governors and visitors are able to work in a welcoming, clean and safe environment.

The role will be for 37 hours per week, working split shifts in a morning and afternoon/evening, with some flexibility required. Hours will be agreed at interview.

We require an individual who:

  • Is a hardworking and reliable individual who will play a key part in maintaining and improving our school environment and who will have a sense of pride in their role and in our school.
  • Has a range of practical skills and can carry out minor repairs/maintenance tasks within school to a high standard and be competent and confident in carrying out building maintenance work i.e. minor plumbing, repairs, joinery etc.
  • Has a good understanding of health and safety and the procedures necessary to keep our site, staff, pupils and visitors safe (this includes understanding of H.A.S.A.W and C.O.S.H.H).
  • Is able to provide support across all aspects of school life, including; access and security, housekeeping, repairs and maintenance, building and contents, health and safety and administration.
  • Is able to organise and prioritise work effectively.
  • Is able to work on their own initiative and be proactive.
  • Has experience in supervising staff and carefully monitoring the work of external contractors on site.
  • Has the ability to positively interact with colleagues, parents, pupils and the community, and a willingness to contribute to the ethos that exists within the school is essential.
  • Has flexibility to deal with emergencies that may arise outside of normal working hours and accommodate projects / maintenance needs during school holidays; occasional late-night duties e.g. during special events, parents evening etc.
  • Be able to carry out a wide range of physical tasks that will include lifting and carrying, working at height etc.
  • Previous school caretaking experience would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Be open to training that will enable you to fulfil the role.
