Job summary

REED is seeking a dedicated School Caretaker for a school near Aveley, South Ockendon, Essex. The role involves lock-up duties, safety checks, and general maintenance to keep the site welcoming and secure for pupils and staff.

The ideal candidate will have practical maintenance skills, knowledge of health and safety regulations, and the ability to manage multiple tasks on a busy school site, with a reliable and proactive approach.

Qualifications

• Experience in caretaker or maintenance roles preferred.
• Ability to perform physical tasks and use basic handyperson skills.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations is important.

Responsibilities

• Locking up the site and setting the alarm.
• Conducting weekly fire alarm checks and maintaining safety protocols.
• Performing general repairs and maintenance tasks around the school.
• Unblocking sinks and toilets, fixing door/window handles.
• Carrying out painting and decorating tasks as needed.
• Replacing toilet seats and putting up shelves/pin boards.
• Daily health and safety checks to keep students and staff safe.
• Overseeing contractors and ensuring work meets standards.
• Providing porterage, moving furniture, and delivering parcels.
• Litter picking and replenishing supplies (soap, towels, sanitizer).
• Maintaining school grounds and performing other duties as required.

School Caretaker

• Hourly Rate: £19.50 (Umbrella) / £16.50 (PAYE)
• Location: Near Aveley, South Ockendon, Essex
• Job Type: Working Monday to Friday 6am to 2pm and 11am to 7pm on a weekly rota basis

We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker to join a vibrant school located near Aveley, South Ockendon, Essex. This role is ideal for someone who is hands-on and has a passion for maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Locking up the site, setting the alarm
• Conducting weekly fire alarm checks and maintaining safety protocols
• Performing general repairs and maintenance tasks within the school
• Unblocking sinks and toilets, fixing door and window handles
• Carrying out painting and decorating tasks as needed
• Replacing toilet seats, putting up shelves, and pin boards
• Conducting daily health and safety checks to ensure a secure environment for students and staff
• Overseeing contractors on site and ensuring work is completed to standards
• Providing porterage services, moving furniture, and delivering parcels around the building
• Litter picking, sweeping up leaves, emptying bins, and replenishing supplies such as soap, paper towels, and hand sanitizer
• Maintaining the school grounds and performing all other duties as required

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a caretaker or maintenance role is preferred
• Ability to perform physical tasks and handle various handyperson duties
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
• Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
