Job summary

St Paul’s CofE Primary School in Newsham is seeking a caretaker to look after the main site and a nearby building. The role focuses on keeping buildings and grounds clean, safe and in good repair, with daily site checks and supervising outside contractors.

The 36-hour post includes on-site accommodation; flexibility for hours around school events and lettings is required. A DBS check is required, and you will plan maintenance with the SBM and Headteacher, manage deliveries, and record meter

Responsibilities

• Keep the school site, inside and out, clean, tidy and safe for learning
• Carry out a daily check of the whole site and make first-line and emergency repairs
• Carry out compliance checks for water, emergency lighting and the fire alarm
• Operate the heating plant, maintain heating and lighting, and take frost precautions
• Manage and inspect the work of contractors on site, including cleaning and grounds contractors
• Maintain drains and gullies and clear blockages
• Secure the site at the end of each day as keyholder and give safe access in emergencies or extreme weather
• Plan long and short-term maintenance programmes with the SBM and Headteacher
• Manage refuse collection and replenish hand towels, soap and toilet rolls
• Take deliveries, including fruit and milk, and distribute them across the school
• Set out and clear dining tables and chairs and set up furniture for hall use and events
• Record meter readings and manage heating, lighting and water use to keep costs down
