Job summary

Orbis Education & Care is seeking a dedicated Site Caretaker for Birchwood School to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for pupils and staff. You will perform daily repairs, maintenance tasks, health and safety checks, and help with cleaning duties while managing grounds and presentation of outdoor spaces.

The role requires practicality, reliability, and the ability to work independently in a busy school setting.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication with pupils and staff.
• Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work independently and calmly under pressure.
• Basic health and safety knowledge (training provided)

Birchwood School is looking for a dedicated and hands‑on Site Caretakerto help create an environment where children and young people with complexneeds can feel safe, supported, and inspired every day. What You’ll Be Doing

As our Site Caretaker, you will play a key role in keeping BirchwoodSchool running smoothly. Your days will be varied, active, and essential toensuring our pupils and staff have a safe and welcoming place to learn.

Your responsibilities will include:

General Maintenance

• Carryingout daily repairs and planned maintenance
• Completingessential health and safety checks
• Inspectingheating, lighting, and alarm systems
• Supportingcleaning tasks when needed

Grounds & Presentation

• Gardening,landscaping, and keeping outdoor spaces tidy
• Painting,decorating, and improving site appearance
• Managingtools, equipment, and materials

Site Security

• Openingand closing the school each day
• Performingregular security checks
• Supportingtraffic flow on site
• Workingwith contractors, overseeing site inductions, and supervising whenrequired

Vehicle Support

• Carryingout basic checks and cleaning of school vehicles

What You Bring

We’re looking for someone practical, reliable, and confident in a busyschool setting. Ideally, you’ll have:

• GCSEs/NVQs/SVQs (or equivalent)
• Experience with basic repairs, maintenance, or caretaking
• Clear communication and great organisation
• The ability to work independently and stay calm under pressure
• A basic understanding of health and safety (training available)
• Confidence travelling locally using school vehicles

Qualifications in construction, engineering, or IOSH are an advantagebut not a requirement.
