A leading construction company based in Bromsgrove is recruiting a Caretaker for a job share role. Job description

BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Caretaker for the FM Segment based out of Bromsgrove Schools. This is a job share role working 2 days per week and 15 hours per week.

Shift Pattern: 07:00 - 15:00 and Nominal 10:15 - 18:15. Note: Start/end times on Friday may change weekly subject to school & third party bookings.

Pay: £13.90 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Security of the site.
• Lock/unlock school buildings and areas.
• Key holding.
• Setting/un-setting of security systems.
• Undertake regular security checks and identify security risks.
• Monitor fire safety equipment and assist authorities in carrying out fire drills.
• Operate and respond to alarm systems where appropriate.
• Liaise with contractors.
• Provide emergency access to school site.
• Undertake appropriate repairs (e.g., minor redecorating and fixing).
• Undertake minor/simple repairs (e.g., minor plumbing, changing lamps, unblocking drains, replacing finishes, ironmongery).
• Organise and carry out various maintenance duties to ensure that the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises is satisfactory, as per the specific schedule for the site.
• Organise and carry out minor decoration & improvement works.
• Monitor the BMS system and report any issues.
• Participate in a preventative planned maintenance programme and conduct routine inspections of the buildings, fixtures, fittings, furniture, premises and grounds to assess for minor work or repairs required to maintain safe and satisfactory conditions.
• Carry out checks of heating plant and lighting systems.
• Undertake regular site inspections and identify and record repair and maintenance requirements.
• Identify defects and record repair and maintenance requirements.
• Remove waste to central collection point (bin storage area).
• Assist in the administration of log books.
• Undertake emergency cleaning tasks during specified times.
• Undertake cleaning duties such as graffiti removal & litter picking of the entire site (external).
• Undertake on‑call duties when required.
• Coordinate deliveries to the site and distribution within.
• Carry out evening let duties when required.
• Monitor the performance of contractors and carry out inductions prior to them gaining access to the site.
• Liaise with contractors & undertake client role in connection with premises‑related contracts.
• Assist in safety audits of the premises and contribute to relevant risk assessment activity.
• Assist the Site Technician when required.

Qualifications

• Caretaking or trade experience in a similar environment.
• Good numeracy/literacy/GCE (or equivalent) Maths and English.
• Willingness to develop knowledge of ICT and other specialist equipment/resources.
• Working knowledge of relevant policies, codes of practice and legislation.
• Ability to work without direct supervision.
• Ability to relate well to children and adults.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures and precautions.
• Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
• Willingness to participate in development and training opportunities.
• Demonstrate a flexible attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
• Show the ability to assist other team members in the discharge of their duties.
• This role is subject to a satisfactory passing of an enhanced DBS check.
