Job description

The Camden and Islington Personality Disorder Service are recruiting a full-time Assistant Practitioner, who will also be the carer's lead within the Service.

We are a dynamic service that is continuously seeking to improve and evolve within a changing NHS climate. This post provides an opportunity to work as part of a supportive, reflective and motivated team, committed to working compassionately with people diagnosed with personality disorders.

The service is made up of a Community Team, Liaison Team and a Therapies Team, with this role supporting all parts of the service.

This position requires the candidate to take a lead role working with carers, through providing psychoeducation, individual support and group support.

The role supports the service through contributing to the assessment of people referred to the service, team clinical supervision, reception duties, clinical administration and data analysis, and by contributing to service development.

Main duties of the job

This assistant practitioner role combines vital front line work supporting the carers of people receiving care from the Personality Disorder Service with work supporting the functioning of the the service within the Clinical Admin and Reception team.

As carer's lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of carer's support across the service. You will be supported to run groups for carers so that they can continue to support our clients effectively.

Additionally, part of the role is dedicated to supporting the functioning of the service through our Clinical Admin and Reception team. This team is the front door of our service, welcoming clients who attend for appointments and directing clients who call our service, as well as providing administrative support to the service.

Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

Following plans of care and reporting to a more senior member of staff to undertake a range of duties including the delivery and recording of contact with service users, carers and professionals.

To be aware of and assist in meeting the psychological, social, physical, recreational and spiritual needs of all service users and carers via contact through duty.

Actively participate in the care of service users as per the plan of care determined by the multidisciplinary team. Encouraging service users to accept an optimum level of responsibility for their individual programme of care and with their consent, where appropriate, seek the cooperation of friends / relatives / carers.

Experience
  • Experience working within a mental health setting.
  • An ability to respond professionally and sensitively to clients who are anxious, angry or distressed.
  • Experience of working in the community in a mental health role.
  • Experience of working with patients diagnosed with a personality disorder
Knowledge and Understanding
  • Use of MS Office applications and Outlook software to intermediate level.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and sensitively, face to face, over the telephone and in writing.
Personal Qualities
  • Ability to work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
  • An ability to respond professionally and sensitively to service-users who are anxious, angry or distressed.
