Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Skills and Employability Team for a part time Careers Consultant within the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Careers Hub. This is a strategic consultancy and project management role focused on improving careers education across schools and colleges. Working with Headteachers, Principals, CEOs, Careers Leaders and employers, you will influence school improvement priorities, support the implementation of national careers education policy, and drive system-wide change that improves outcomes for young people. This is not a student-facing careers adviser role and does not involve providing one-to-one careers guidance. Instead, you will act as a trusted consultant to education leaders, managing a portfolio of schools and colleges, analysing performance data, leading improvement activity and building strong partnerships with employers and stakeholders. If you enjoy influencing senior leaders, managing complex projects, using data to drive improvement and creating lasting change across education systems, this could be the role for you. The vacancy is:

  • Part Time 3 days Staffordshire Wide Role (22.5hrs per week) this post is fixed term until 31st August 2027.
  • Join us and you'll help shape the future for our education system and young people across Staffordshire.
  • Consult with school and college leaders, on careers education policy and the implementation of strategic plans aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks and Statutory guidance with a focus on tackling disadvantage.
  • Manage a caseload of schools, colleges and employers, analysing and tracking their progress to ensure maximum impact for young people.
  • Manage and support the implementation of key careers frameworks, projects and models within the school and business system.
For the purpose of shortlisting, the minimum criteria for the role are:
  • Has extensive experience in careers education, ideally with a detailed understanding of careers policy, statutory guidance and the barriers faced by schools and colleges to embed careers education into the system.
  • Is confident consulting with senior leaders in both education and business and managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Can analyse and present performance data and is comfortable using digital and IT systems.
  • Is proactive, adaptable, and able to manage a busy workload independently whilst having the ability to engage and influence at all levels.
