Careers Advisor & Exams Officer
Actual Salary: Grade SC6/SO1 depending on experience,£23,062.96 - £26,591.95 per annum

Purpose:
To provide professional career guidance exams services, including
- personal guidance interviews, in order to improve pupils’ skills,
- knowledge and understanding for career planning and management.
- To providecareer guidancesupport targeted atimprovingoutcomesfor Students.
- To administer all internal and external examinations in line with awarding body regulations.
- To be responsible for leading and coordinating a team of exam invigilators during key exam periods and ensuring the accurate and timely communication with staff, students and parents regarding exam arrangements
Responsibilities:
Personal Career Guidance
- To conduct client-focused, impartial, personal career guidance interviews with pupils which challenge and support them to make informed, realistic and adaptable career decisions based on self and opportunity awareness, aspirations, motivation, confidence and approach to learning and which, if necessary, broaden their horizons.
- To generate and maintain client records electronically in support of personal guidance interviews, including a summary of agreed actions/action plan.
Careers Information
- Use expert knowledge of careers information and labour market information and Intelligence to enable pupils to identify, access, interpret and utilise valid and current information that is relevant to them, including the appropriate use of information technology, e.g., social media and web-based information sources.
- To organise careers fairs and other relevant activities in conjunction with the Careers Leader.
Career Guidance Programmes
- To provide advice to the Careers Leader on the range of resources and the role of opportunity providers, other education, training and employment providers and relevant others e.g., Enterprise Co-ordinator/Adviser in the development and delivery of the career guidance programme in school and the achievement of the Gatsby Benchmarks.
- To facilitate career-related learning activities in groups with pupils.
- To assist, where relevant, with the monitoring, evaluation and reporting on the effectiveness of the career guidance programme in achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks and the Quality in Careers Standard.
Networking, Consultancy and Advocacy
- To refer to specialist services if required to support specific needs of pupils e.g., young people with SEND.
- To communicate with relevant external agencies and networks for the benefit of pupils and the enhancement of the career guidance programme.
- To involve parents and carers, where relevant, in the career guidance programme and support provided to their child and attend parents’ evenings as required.
- To negotiate Service Level Agreements, where relevant.
Professionalism
- To abide by the relevant legislation, codes of professional practice.
- To abide by all measures to safeguard young people.
- To reflect on practice and engage in continuous professional development to further develop the skills and knowledge required for professional practice and to keep up to date with developments in the sector.
Carry out additional tasks as reasonably requested by the Headteacher to support the effective running of the school
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
- Relevant qualification (e.g. Level 6 in Career Guidance and Development) or willingness to work towards one.
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Exams Officer training or willingness to complete training (e.g. via JCQ/Awarding Bodies).
Experience
- Experience working in a school or educational setting (preferably in a pastoral, careers, SEN, or exams-related role).
- Experience providing 1:1 and group careers guidance to young people with a range of needs.
- Experience in managing and administering internal and external data.
- Experience using school management systems (e.g. SIMS, Arbor, or similar).
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of post-16 and post-18 pathways including further education, training, apprenticeships, and supported employment.
- Up-to-date understanding of the Gatsby Benchmarks, Careers Strategy, and the CDI framework.
- Knowledge of JCQ and awarding body regulations relating to exams and access arrangements.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Strong IT skills, including confidence in using Excel, databases, and online careers platforms.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and external agencies.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet statutory deadlines.
