Overview

Career Grade Planner (Development Management) – Grade 4 to 7, £26,403 up to £42,839 per annum pro rata, dependant on experience
37 hours per week, Permanent contract.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit an ambitious candidate to strengthen our Development Management Team. The department is going from strength to strength, having been awarded the East Midlands Local Planning Authority Team of the Year in 2024 and receiving a commendation in the East Midlands Young Planner of the Year category in 2025.

To complement our existing team and successful recruitment in the spring, we are ideally looking for an experienced Planning Officer or Senior Planning Officer; however other grades will be considered. We are committed to supporting and developing your skills to perform and progress as a professional planner.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied caseload of all types of planning applications, pre-application enquiries, and appeals.
  • Contribute to development proposals including urban extensions, large employment uses, sensitive locations, and rural development applications.
  • Support the progress of the Local Plan, with next stage of public consultation due later this year.
  • Communicate effectively, handle conflict, and negotiate solutions to challenging problems.
  • Assist with broader skills development and career progression through the career grade progression scheme.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience as a Planning Officer or Senior Planning Officer is preferred; other grades will be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts.
  • Willingness to broaden skills and gain experience to support career development.
