We are offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated, ambitious, and experienced nurse to take on the role of Looked After Children’s Nurse, supporting our Cared for Children in Cheshire East.

This is a varied and unique role for a practitioner with clinical expertise relating to safeguarding children and young people.

As a key member of the Safeguarding Children Team in Cheshire East, the Cared for Children’s Nurse will support the Specialist Nurses to provide a safe and effective health service to children and young people looked after by local authorities and placed within the local authority boundary of Cheshire East.

Main duties of the job
  • Support the Specialist Nurses for Looked after Children to provide a safe and effective health service to children and young people looked after by local authorities within Cheshire East.
  • Support the Named Nurse in developing the service and adopting best practice methods to meet national and local guidelines and requirements.
  • Provide specialist advice, support, and training on Safeguarding Children to all WCT staff; take a leading role in matters related to the health and wellbeing of looked after children.
  • Work as part of the integrated multi-agency team, ensuring the Safeguarding Strategy is implemented across the borough and that practitioners can access advice and support regarding the health needs of children and young people.
  • Collaborate with the multi-agency team to ensure that the views of children, young people, and healthcare workers in linked services influence the development of clinical practice for Cared for Children within East Cheshire.
  • Contribute to information sharing across the local health economy, including primary and secondary care, to inform risk assessments, care planning, and decision-making.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role ensures the health needs of Cared for Children in Cheshire East are supported to reach their optimal health.

The role has distinct duties and responsibilities to achieve this goal:

  • Inter-agency liaison and participation in multi-agency meetings
  • Providing advisory and clinical guidance for practitioners and other professionals
  • Managing healthcare provision for a caseload
  • Implementing policies, procedures, protocols, and statutory guidance
  • Participating in planning and delivering training
  • Developing and participating in clinical audits

Qualifications and Professional Training
  • RGN/RN/RSCN/RM
  • Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse or RSCN
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Nursing Degree or equivalent
  • Teaching or Mentorship qualification
Experience and Knowledge
  • Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience as a Health Visitor, School Nurse, or RSCN, with significant safeguarding experience
