Job Summary

Band 3 Care Support Worker in the Children's Emergency Department

The Children's Emergency Department at The John Radcliffe Hospital currently has vacancies for Care Support Workers.

We are a friendly team of skilled practitioners, committed to providing high-quality care in a fast-paced and demanding environment. We value delivering excellent care to our most vulnerable patients during times of high stress for them and their families.

We seek motivated and proactive Care Support Workers. Experience in a healthcare setting or with children is essential. We offer a supportive environment with strong opportunities for professional development and progression through the Care Certificate.

Flexible working options are available, including long days, nights, weekdays, and weekends. We can accommodate set shift patterns and are open to discussing any specific requirements or planned leave during the interview.

Main Duties of the Job

The overall purpose of this role is to:

  1. Assist qualified staff in implementing patient care programmes.
  2. Assist in planning patient care alongside registered nurses.
  3. Perform patient care tasks under supervision of a registered nurse.
  4. Record detailed patient care information under supervision.
  5. Monitor and maintain equipment and the environment of the unit under supervision.
  6. Support junior colleagues in conjunction with registered nurses.

Education, Training, and Qualifications (Essential)

  • Demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Level 2 Apprenticeship or Diploma in a health-related subject.
  • Desirable: Level 3 Diploma or Apprenticeship in health, Care Certificate, understanding of the Code of Conduct.

Clinical Practice (Essential)

  • Experience in NHS or health/child care, with interest in the specialty.
  • Understanding of accountability, delegation, and professionalism.
  • Team player with high standards of patient care.
  • Effective communication with patients, relatives, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Desirable: Up-to-date knowledge of the specialist area.
