Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our well-established and integrated adult community rehabilitation service.

Looking to take the next step in your career? Are you an experienced Band 5 looking to progress or a Band 6 passionate about working across various health conditions?

Our community rehab team assesses housebound adults within their home environment. By assessing people within their home, we can significantly improve their quality of life and promote independence by providing therapy and working with social services, physiotherapists, and other team members, making this a very rewarding job.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake complex, holistic, person-centred assessments, treatment, support planning, and reviews of people with a range of health conditions in the community.
  • Manage a caseload and perform detailed assessments and treatments of patients within the borough of Redbridge.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team demonstrating excellent rehabilitation of patients with complex physical and cognitive needs.
  • Experience in equipment ordering, moving and handling, and risk assessment.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT places a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted. All new starters will join on the first Monday of each month and undergo a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training, and equipment allocation. They will also meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend drop-in sessions on engagement, health, wellbeing, and key processes. Induction is held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post is subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt unless they are currently in a probation or bank role.

High-Cost Area Supplement

This position attracts a 15% supplement of the basic salary (minimum £4,551, maximum £5,735), pro-rata for part-time staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality Occupational Therapy expertise and services.
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions promoting independence, social inclusion, and normalization.
  • Coordinate care for service users.
  • Order and review equipment to facilitate independence and reduce manual handling risks.
  • Identify barriers to rehabilitation, such as fatigue, cognition, or psychological issues, and signpost to appropriate services.
  • Manage challenging clinical situations, plan interventions, and evaluate therapy effectiveness.
  • Provide clinical advice and contribute to reviews of service users’ progress.
  • Collaborate with other services to support and treat service users.
  • Work within safeguarding frameworks.
  • Complete in-service training and supervise junior staff.
  • Take responsibility for clinical audits.

Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • HCPC registered

Car Driver

  • Valid UK driving license

Experience

  • At least 3 years NHS/community experience
  • Experience in equipment provision
