Job summary

Kara Healthcare in Gateshead is seeking a caring Kitchen Assistant to join our care home kitchen team. You will help prepare, cook, and present nutritious meals for residents, ensuring dietary needs are met and high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness are maintained.

Working alongside the Head Chef and care staff, you will assist with serving meals, stock checks, and keeping wastage low while supporting a welcoming dining experience for residents.

Qualifications

• Experience in kitchen or care home catering is preferred.
• Understand basic food handling and hygiene practices.
• Ability to follow menus and dietary requirements.
• Willingness to learn and training may be provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, cooking, and presentation of meals.
• Support the kitchen team to provide nutritious, balanced meals.
• Assist with preparing special diets and texture-modified meals.
• Help serve meals and ensure residents are treated with dignity.
