Job summary

Gold Care Homes is seeking a Gardener to maintain care home gardens to a safe, attractive, and therapeutic standard for residents, visitors and staff. You will ensure outdoor areas are well-presented year-round and support residents' wellbeing through pleasant surroundings.

The role involves planting, pruning, lawn care, weed control, safe equipment use, and collaboration with the Home Manager and Maintenance Team to keep pathways, seating areas, and borders tidy and hazard-free.

Responsibilities

• Maintain gardens, lawns, borders, and outdoor areas to a high standard.
• Plant, water, prune, weed, mulch, and care for trees, shrubs, flowers, and seasonal displays.
• Carry out routine lawn care including mowing, edging, feeding, and aerating.
• Keep pathways, patios, driveways, seating areas, and external spaces clean, tidy, safe, and hazard-free.
• Operate, clean, and maintain gardening tools safely and report faults or maintenance needs.
• Monitor health of plants and manage pests, diseases or weeds per procedures.
• Carry out seasonal gardening and landscape maintenance including planting and displays.
• Dispose of green waste responsibly and maintain composting areas where applicable.
• Support a welcoming, peaceful outdoor environment that residents can enjoy safely.
• Work with the Home Manager and Maintenance Team to keep outdoor areas to high standards.
• Report maintenance issues, hazards, or repairs promptly to the Home Manager or Maintenance Team.
• Follow Health and Safety, COSHH, Fire Safety, Safeguarding and company policies; use PPE.
• Maintain courteous and professional interactions with residents, relatives, visitors and colleagues.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Home Manager.

Job description

To maintain the care home's gardens and outdoor spaces to a high standard, creating a safe, attractive, and therapeutic environment for residents, visitors, and colleagues. The Gardener will ensure all landscaped areas are well-presented throughout the year while promoting the wellbeing of residents through pleasant outdoor surroundings.,

• Maintain gardens, lawns, flower beds, borders, hedges, and outdoor areas to a consistently high standard.
• Plant, water, prune, weed, mulch, and care for trees, shrubs, flowers, and seasonal planting to ensure healthy growth and an attractive appearance.
• Carry out routine lawn care, including mowing, edging, feeding, and aerating as required.
• Keep pathways, patios, driveways, seating areas, and other external spaces clean, tidy, safe, and free from hazards, including leaves, moss, and debris.
• Operate, clean, and maintain gardening tools, machinery, and equipment safely, reporting any faults or maintenance requirements
• Monitor the health of plants and identify signs of pests, diseases, or weeds, taking appropriate action within agreed procedures.
• Carry out seasonal gardening and landscape maintenance, including planting, pruning, leaf clearance, winter preparation, and spring/summer displays.
• Dispose of green waste responsibly and maintain composting areas where applicable, ensuring environmentally responsible working practices.
• Support the creation of a welcoming, peaceful, and therapeutic outdoor environment that encourages residents to enjoy the gardens safely.
• Work collaboratively with the Home Manager, Maintenance Team, and other colleagues to ensure outdoor areas are maintained to the highest standards.
• Report any maintenance issues, hazards, damage, or repairs relating to external areas to the Home Manager or Maintenance Team promptly.
• Follow all Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, COSHH, Fire Safety, Safeguarding, and company policies and procedures at all times.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working practices when carrying out gardening duties.
• Maintain a courteous and professional approach when interacting with residents, relatives, visitors, and colleagues, respecting dignity, privacy, and independence.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role as requested by the Home Manager. £15.35 Per Hour
