Job description

Care Crew Senior Healthcare Assistant

We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our established Activities Care Crew. The role involves providing patient-centered activity groups for patients, primarily on our older patients' wards. Activities may include daily orientation, reminiscence groups, musical memories, individual distraction, and facilitating person-centered activities such as barber shop, spa, gardening, crafts, and assisting patients in engaging with their daily routines independently where possible.

Please note: This role requires working on a rota basis, including Monday - Friday, weekends, nights, and bank holidays, regardless of hours worked.

Note: The RBH cannot provide visas for this role.

The team supports inpatient wards in managing patients with enhanced care needs, including unpredictable behaviors often related to dementia or other cognitive impairments. Support is mainly provided through group activities but also on a 1:1 basis as needed.

Ideal candidates will have experience working with patients with cognitive impairments, mental health conditions, and behavioral challenges. An induction program with appropriate training will be provided to develop skills in managing these conditions.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an assessment session as part of the interview process. Successful candidates at the assessment will be invited for an interview.

The role involves facilitating a flexible, client-centered program of therapeutic activities for individuals and groups of patients, mainly within elderly care, under the supervision of the Care Crew Team Leader. This includes patients with dementia, cognitive and physical impairments, frailty, and behavioral concerns.

The position is primarily based at our main Royal Berkshire Hospital site, with occasional coverage at our off-site ward at West Berkshire Community Hospital.

Royal Berkshire Hospital is proud to have been rated ‘Good’ following our recent CQC inspection, with significant improvements noted. Our overall trust rating has also improved to ‘good’.
