Job summary

Erskine Veterans Charity is seeking a Care Assistant for Erskine Home, Bishopton, to join a 24/7 environment with rotational day and night shifts. You will help residents with personal care, meals and activities while promoting independence and social engagement.

Candidate should be compassionate, patient, and able to work well in a team; SVQ II in Health and Social Care or SCQF Level 6 is preferred, with Erskine supporting this qualification and SSSC registration within 3 months.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills within a care setting.
• Compassionate and patient approach to residents.
• Be a team player with initiative.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality personal care to residents, including hygiene and dressing.
• Support residents with meals and daily activities in a dignified manner.
• Update records, write reports and liaise with relatives and staff.

Our service is provided in a 24/7, 365 days environment:

shifts include weekends & bank holidays

Our standard shifts are 12½ hours (includes unpaid break)

and are rotational between Day Shift and Night Shift

Day Shift: 07:30 – 20:00

Night Shift: 19:30 – 08:00

Grade 2 Salary £27,299 to £27,342 per annum (pro rata) (£14.00 to £14.02 per hour)

The Role:

As a Care Assistant at Erskine, you will work under the supervision of senior care staff to provide the highest quality of care to out residents who have wide-ranging and complex needs including dementia.

This is a demanding role, duties will be varied and no day will be the same. You will support residents with personal care activities such as washing, personal hygiene, dressing and assisting with meals. You will also care for their psychological and social needs promoting independence and personal choice, whilst encouraging them to take part in the wide range of activities that Erskine have to offer.

You will have a kind, warm and caring nature, be patient and understanding and be able to work well as part of a team but also use your own initiative. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written are essential as you will be required to update records, write reports and liaise with residents, relatives and staff.

Whilst previous care experience is desirable along with SVQ II in Health and Social Care or SVQ Social Service and Healthcare SCQF Level 6, it is not essential. You will, however, be required to achieve this qualification and Erskine will support you through this. You will also be responsible for ensuring you are a member of the Scottish Social Services Council within 3 months of joining Erskine.
