(ee) Part-time carer for a disabled teenager in central Harrogate, focusing on communication and play. Ideal for gaining experience working with individuals with speech, language, and communication difficulties.

We seek a carer to work one afternoon per week, with potential for flexible increases, caring for a 17-year-old with quadriplegic cerebral palsy who uses a wheelchair. He is non-verbal but has a great sense of humor, enjoys walks, train and bus spotting, books, stories, and pretend play. He communicates via simple devices and gestures, including an iPad.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Meeting the young person from school bus drop-off.
  2. Setting up his afternoon gastro feed (training provided).
  3. Engaging in play sessions, reading, and communication aid activities.
  4. Walking into town and the local library (10-minute walk from home).
  5. Assisting with clothing changes and general care.

No specific prior skills are required, but experience or training in caring professions is a plus. Candidates should demonstrate commitment, patience, initiative, creativity, and empathy.
