A caring organization is seeking a Care Assistant in Carshalton to provide companionship for a gentleman with Alzheimer's. The role involves social activities, assistance with communication, and support to help maintain independence. Ideal candidates will have skills in dementia care, excellent communication abilities, and a compassionate approach. This part-time position is expected to start with one day a week, potentially on Wednesdays and requires a full UK driving license.
My husband Geoff is a man in his early sixties who was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimers disease. Geoff is physically fit and healthy. He enjoys going to the gym, playing golf, and going for walks via a coffee shop. Geoff gave up work over five years ago as he was starting to show signs of memory loss and could not continue. He volunteered at Citizens' Advice Bureau but stopped a couple of years ago.
Geoff is struggling with loneliness and lack of social contact during the day from Monday to Wednesday while I am at work. Although some of his friends still see him from time to time, this is not regular. The Alzheimer's creates challenges for Geoff in dealing with dates and times, communicating, completing longer sentences, and finding the right words. This also makes some social situations harder.
We are looking for a companion/personal assistant (preferably male, if possible!) who could accompany Geoff on walks, shopping trips, outings to London, participate in activities, and assist with administrative tasks such as checking and responding to emails, helping with his phone, and replying to texts and WhatsApp messages. We prefer a non-smoker who likes cats.
We are initially looking for someone to work one day a week (possibly Wednesday).
