Responsibilities

  • Provide a comprehensive specialist nursing service within Cardiology medicine.
  • Develop and deliver services in own specialist area including protocols and audits.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary manner to provide high quality cardiology care.
  • Provide specialist training and education to doctors, nurses, allied professionals and students.
  • Participate in audit/research to evaluate practice and national audits/research projects.
  • Model compassionate, inclusive leadership to foster a collective leadership culture.
  • Manage Cardiology Specialist Nurse-led services (e.g., Heart Failure, Cardiac Rehab, Pre-assessment, Cardioversion).
  • Assist with Transoesophageal Echocardiography, contrast echo and Stress ECHO.
  • Provide a telephone helpline for patients with complex cardiac conditions.
  • Liaise with primary/secondary care to ensure robust communication lines.

Job description

Responsible to the Lead Cardiology Specialist Nurse. In collaboration with medical and technical teams, participate in the organisation, control and delivery of treatment and associated care within specialist nurse led cardiology services.,

  • Provide a comprehensive specialist clinical nursing service within Cardiology medicine, with emphasis on patient cantered care.
  • Take a role in the development and service delivery in own specialist area including developing protocols and audits whilst supporting colleagues in their specialism.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary manner, to provide high quality care for cardiology patients, both as inpatients and outpatients.
  • Provide highly specialist training and education in cardiology medicine to doctors, nurses, allied healthcare professionals and students.
  • Participate in audit / research to evaluate practice and participate in local and national audit / research projects.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries., Manage Cardiology Specialist Nurse led services, e g. Heart Failure, refer for Post Myocardial Infarction follow Up and Cardiac Rehabilitation, Heart failure Virtual ward, Pre-assessment Clinics and Cardioversion service.

  • 1st level Registered Nurse
  • Degree in nursing / health studies or equivalent experience/training
  • Mentorship qualification, Clinical skills course and/or advanced history taking skills
  • Counselling course
  • Heart Failure Course (12 month course)
  • Registered non-medical prescriber
  • British Association for cardiac rehabilitation Exercise Course
  • ECDL, Evidence of specialist education and training in Cardiology
  • In depth experience cardiology nursing, Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods, It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role
