Contract Type: Permanent, Full time

Hours:37.5 hours per week

Salary: Competitive- dependent upon experience + allowances

We have an exciting opportunity for a Scrub Theatre Practitioner with strong Cardiac experience to join our fantastic Theatre Team at The Harborne Hospital. We are The UKs No 1 for Private Cardiac Care, treating the most common to the most complex cardiac problem, using a variety of techniques, including open, minimally invasive, endoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery.

The Harborne Hospital - part of HCA Healthcare UK is a brand new £100million, purpose built 50 bed, multi-speciality private hospital that has opened in Birmingham in January 2024. Located on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Campus, the hospital has the deep clinical infrastructure, equipment and facilities and expert, experienced teams to deliver full clinical pathways across a mix of specialties and sub-specialties at all levels of complexity including Cardiology, Cancer, Orthopaedics, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Spinal and Complex Surgery. We have 4 State of the art Operating Theatres (Including 1 Hybrid Theatre.

Main duties of the job

Understand the professional boundaries when performing the scrubbed role and the differences between scrub and surgical first assistant.

Complete mandatory surgical checks prior to the start of the surgical procedure, during and pre-wound closure in line with policy. Ensuring that all swab, instrument and needle counts are conducted and documented.

Act proficiently in the circulating role.

Lead members of the surgical team to provide safe quality care to the patient throughout the procedure.

Participate fully as a team member, including working in specific areas of the theatre suite, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues, to promote a cohesive team and the achievement of team objectives.

Experience
  • Post Graduate Experience working as a Scrub Theatre Practitioner in an Operating Theatre Department.
  • Cardiac Experience working in an Operating Theatre scrubbing covering CABG and Grafts, Mini invasive cardiac cases and open cases, TAVIs and PCI's
  • Effective communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to work as part of a team
