Job summary

The Woodland Trust is seeking a Carbon Project Officer to support management of estate and third-party carbon Woodland and Peatland projects. You will work across multiple workstreams, produce technical documentation, and develop expertise in UK carbon standards and markets.

This hybrid role combines home working with monthly head office attendance in Grantham, Lincolnshire, and occasional travel to remote locations. Strong data skills, GIS experience, and stakeholder collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting environmental, natural capital, forestry, land management or carbon-related projects.
• Experience producing high-quality technical documentation, reports and project information that meet standards.

Carbon Project Officer

The Woodland Trust is looking for a Carbon Project Officer. The Carbon Project Officer will support the project management of the Trust’s estate and third-party carbon Woodland and Peatland code projects, in turn supporting Operations teams to deliver carbon on the ground and meet long term carbon code requirements.

The Role:

• Manage multiple carbon project workstreams simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and work is delivered to a consistently high standard.
• Produce high-quality Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code project documentation, including project design documents, cashflows, carbon calculations, mapping, management plans, monitoring plans and risk assessments.
• Develop specialist knowledge of carbon standards and markets, staying informed on industry developments and communicating their implications across the organisation.
• Analyse, interpret and present complex datasets and technical information to support project development, reporting and decision-making.
• Create and maintain accurate project records, trackers and databases, ensuring effective project management, reporting and compliance.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, landowners, auditors, regulators and other stakeholders to support the successful delivery of carbon projects.
• Plan and undertake site surveys, validations and verifications, providing technical expertise and support throughout the carbon project lifecycle.
• Act as a trusted source of advice on the Woodland Trust's carbon offer, managing enquiries and communicating complex information clearly to a range of audiences.
• This is a hybrid position with a mix of home working and from our head office in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Head office attendance would be required once a month on average. Occasional travel to other offices and remote locations may also be required.

The Candidate:

• Experience supporting the development and delivery of environmental, natural capital, forestry, land management or carbon-related projects.
• Experience producing high-quality technical documentation, reports and project information that meet organisational, regulatory or industry standards.
• Experience using GIS or mapping software, such as ArcGIS Pro, to support project planning, delivery and reporting.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to accurately interpret, manage and present data to support decision-making and project outcomes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience building effective relationships across a range of internal and external partners, including landowners, auditors, regulators and sector bodies.
• The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while also taking a proactive and self-motivated approach to managing your own workload.
• An understanding of woodland creation, peatland restoration and carbon projects, or a willingness to develop expertise in the Woodland Carbon Code, Peatland Code and emerging UK carbon standards and grant mechanisms.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and consistently deliver high-quality work to agreed deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel throughout the UK, including overnight stays and visits to remote sites. Successful completion of pre-employment checks, including Right to Work and employment history verification.
