Your Team Responsibilities

The Ratings team within MSCI Carbon Markets conducts in-depth independent assessments of the integrity of carbon projects to provide more transparency on the quality of carbon credits and help buyers and investors to overcome their key challenges in buying carbon credits. Through developing methodological frameworks for assessing project integrity and then reviewing and evaluating projects against that framework, the Ratings team aims to push the carbon markets to solve the key integrity challenges that it still faces.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical expert on nature-based carbon projects, with a focus on agriculture, agroforestry, soil carbon, and regenerative farming systems.
  • Collaborate closely with MSCI’s carbon project integrity assessment team to evaluate and develop methodologies related to agricultural carbon projects.
  • Analyse market trends, policy developments, and scientific research relevant to agricultural mitigation strategies and their integration into carbon markets.
  • Produce clear, evidence-based insights for internal stakeholders and external clients through written reports, presentations, and occasional speaking engagements.
  • Stay abreast of best practices in additionality, permanence, and measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) standards for land-based carbon removals.
Your skills and experience that will help you excel
  • Higher degree (Masters) in agricultural sciences, soil science, environmental sciences, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in agriculture, conservation, sustainability consulting, carbon markets, or land management.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for the delivery of reports, briefings, or other outputs.
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office programmes. Some experience in Python, PowerBI and/or SQL a bonus.
  • Demonstrable passion for tackling climate change and keen interest in carbon markets and the role that they could play in facilitating the transition to net zero.

This role is for you if you are…

  • Self-starter, who is able to manage their own time, and collaborate closely with team members
  • Capable of communicating complex issues to colleagues and senior level audiences
  • Passionate about sustainable agriculture, soil health, and the role of nature-based solutions in climate action
  • Curious and analytical, willing to dive into complex issues while maintaining a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach.
